Managing Community Disputes

Thursday, November 18
CTL Director Rachel Milner Gillers delivered a half-day workshop on Managing Community Disputes for the Policy Innovation Lab,  an experiential program at the McCourt School of Public Policy that develops relationships and strategic partnerships with local organizations and community members in DC’s most marginalized and structurally oppressed communities. Rachel presented a framework for consensus building and effective stakeholder engagement rooted in iterative, participatory decision making. The workshop culminated in a 3-party simulated mediation between the representative of a homelessness task force, a neighborhood association concerned about the proposed shelter’s impact, and a facilitator from the town planning commission.
