John Korban

John Korban graduated from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio with a B.S. in Physics in 2012 and was commissioned into the U.S. Army in the same year. He began the first four years of his career serving as an infantry officer in Vilseck, Germany, where he deployed to Egypt as a liaison under the Multi-National Forces and Observers (MFO). John also led his platoon on one of the first rotations of Operation Atlantic Resolve in Latvia and Estonia. He later transitioned to the Civil Affairs branch, where he had the opportunity to serve as a team leader in the Arabian Peninsula.

John is a second-year student in the Master of Arts in Arab Studies program at the School of Foreign Service. His research interests include U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East, the Palestinian/Israeli conflict, conflict resolution, and comparisons between democratic and authoritarian governments. John enjoys playing rugby, snowboarding, and exploring D.C. with his family.
